The Recruit-Me
Story
by Jon Fugler
Motivated by Financial Necessity
Recruit-Me came
out of necessity. I remember sitting
in the bleachers with about 200 other parents
and high school students. We were all there to
hear a man speak about the world of athletic
scholarships. My twin boys were high school
juniors at the time, and excelling in baseball.
I knew very little about baseball scholarships,
except what I read in the paper from time to
time. What I did know was that we couldn't
afford college for both boys at once. We
needed scholarships.
This speaker was
good. Very good. By the time he was done, I was
one of the first in line to buy his book. I
received a call a few days later from a recruiting service
he was associated with. My wife and I met with
the service shortly after that, and we were on
the edge of spending about $2,000 to get this
“recruiting” process started.

That’s
how I was drawn into my education in the
athletic scholarship and recruiting world. Well, the beginning
of my education at least. As it turned out, we ended up signing on with a different service
and a consultant, and paid them $2,000 or so.
I felt it was a
good and necessary investment then, and even to this day
I still believe it was. But I would
have decided differently if I'd had more
choices. It was a lot to spend, and we
really couldn't afford it. But I
did not know much about this recruiting world. I
was unsure of myself, and I knew I couldn't
afford not to get athletic scholarships.
As it turned out,
both boys did end up getting fully paid
educations. I now know I could have done it less
expensively - if I'd known then what I
know now.
Consultant and Experience Built My Expertise
The entire
recruiting process lasted about a year for us,
and in that time I became an “expert,” compared
to where I had begun. I had the help of our
consultant and service, as well as a college
coach that gave us solid input and made some
key
calls to other coaches.
The whole thing
was fascinating. It was a journey that had a
very happy ending. Both sons received
full-ride scholarships to play baseball at
the Division I level. The return on our
investment of time and money was fantastic!
Although we had a
good consultant, a service, and help from a college
coach, we had to do a lot of the work ourselves.
And that’s where the greatest learning came in.
You know how it is: you learn more when you do
something than when you just read about it. And
we did plenty.
We wrote the letters.
We made and received the phone calls.
We made the videos. We responded to the coaches.
We negotiated the scholarships. Indeed, we
went through the
trenches in this process. And we came out
with a deep understanding of the whole
athletic recruitment process.
Shortly after this
was over and the boys were on their way, I had
other parents and friends asking me for help
with their kids or their friends’ kids. I simply
told them what we had done, and sent them
samples of everything I had used in the
recruiting process.
They liked what I
sent them, and I was able to help a few people.
Then it dawned on
me. It does not take $1,000 to successfully go
through the recruiting process. Most parents
don’t have $1,000
extra when they're preparing for college costs.
The good news: you don't really need to spend
this much! If you are properly guided to follow a
few steps, you can spend a fraction of that and
get results yourself. By the way, I
discovered that you're going to do a lot of
the work even if you use a consultant.
The
Recruit-Me System Emerges
That’s how
Recruit-Me was born. I
partnered with Ron Johnston, and we took everything I
learned and all the materials I developed, putting them into one easy-to-follow system
that will get a student-athlete noticed by
multiple schools. We priced it so anyone could afford
it, and made it available online so it could
be used by anyone anywhere.
Help
Yourself to an Athletic Scholarship
You can do this
yourself. Yes, you have work
to do, and Recruit-Me takes you through the
right work so you don't waste time and money. And speaking of money, it saves you tons
of money since you can get recruited without paying thousands of dollars to a service or
consultant. I don’t want to cut down either one,
because both had a part in getting our twin
sons’ fully paid educations while they pursued
baseball. But I do want to provide you with a
more affordable alternative that gets the
job done with our step-by-step help.
Ron and I had fun developing this, and we
look forward to making it even better as time
goes along. It will always be
simple, because we believe in that. And thousands of families have proven that it works!
Meet Jon Fugler

Jon
is co-author of the Recruit-Me Athletic Scholarship System. He's father
of three students simultaneously in college, with twin sons who both made their college entry as
student- athletes. He created the Recruit-Me System based on his own experiences in successfully
walking with his sons through the athletic recruiting and scholarship process. As a consequence
his sons received fully paid educations at a Division I university.
Jon has been a life-long athlete and sports fan,
and he played Division I baseball as a pitcher. He's has been involved in coaching youth sports from
the grade school to the high school level. As a result of his experience and success, he has
taken other parents and athletes through the Recruit-Me System. Jon and his wife, Noonie, are
both Radio DJs! They reside in their now-empty nest in California, where Jon is Executive Director
and General Manager of three California radio stations.
Meet Ron Johnston
